General Information
Airport Master Plan Public Workshop – The Denton Enterprise Airport will hold a second public workshop on the Airport Master Plan on Oct. 23, 2024, from 5 to 6 p.m. at the Airport Terminal Building. The workshop will discuss the current airport facilities and future aviation demand. Airport staff and consultants will be present to answer questions, and more information is available regarding the master plan documents and schedule.
Community Rating System – Denton participates in the Community Rating System (CRS), which provides communities with incentives for exceeding floodplain management standards under the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP). Denton’s rating allows for a 25% discount on flood insurance premiums for federally backed policies starting April 1, 2024. This discount applies automatically to policies issued or renewed after this date. Denton received credit for its Hazard Mitigation Plan and Repetitive Loss Area Analysis, with progress reports submitted to FEMA for annual recertification.
Council Member Requests
Planned Development – A nonprofit received a donation of 70 acres in northwest Denton to develop a microhome community for chronically homeless individuals, including support services, retail, and a community market. The project is in the early review phase, and discussions with the Planning and Zoning Commission are scheduled for October, followed by City Council in December. Zoning changes and a Comprehensive Plan Amendment are required, with public hearings to be held in early 2025 for community input.
Mack Park – Restrooms at Mack Park were closed on Sept. 27 due to a water service line break. Attempts to repair the line were made, but it broke again. To accommodate weekend park users, portable toilets were cleaned and serviced on Saturday.
Tree Survey – A tree survey is underway on Mingo Road as part of the Mingo/Ruddell roadway project within the 2023 Bond Program. The survey collects data on tree location, type, and size to inform design decisions for right-of-way acquisition.
Timbergreen Street – A resident inquired about Timbergreen Street’s condition, and after evaluation, it was determined that a full street reconstruction is needed. The project will be considered for inclusion in the Capital Improvements Projects or Bond Program.
