The City of Denton has entered Stage 1 restrictions under its Drought Contingency Plan after increased water demand and unexpected repairs at a City water treatment facility temporarily reduced treatment capacity.

The City said it has adequate water supply, but the reduced treatment capacity limits how much water it can treat and deliver while repairs are underway. Stage 1 is intended to reduce demand until full treatment capacity is restored.

Residents are being asked to limit non-essential water use, including washing vehicles at home, refilling recreational pools and running ornamental fountains. The City is also encouraging customers to follow its twice-a-week outdoor irrigation schedule.

Stage 1 water use guidance

  • Even-numbered addresses ending in 0, 2, 4, 6 or 8: Outdoor irrigation is allowed on Tuesday and Saturday.
  • Odd-numbered addresses ending in 1, 3, 5, 7 or 9: Outdoor irrigation is allowed on Wednesday and Sunday.
  • Commercial and Multi-Family: Outdoor irrigation is allowed on Monday and Thursday.
  • Irrigation hours: 6 a.m.–10 a.m. and 6 p.m.–10 p.m.
  • Non-essential water use: Residents are asked to limit uses such as washing vehicles at home, refilling recreational pools and running ornamental fountains.

Repairs are anticipated to be completed within a week. The City said it will continue monitoring water demand and will lift Stage 1 restrictions once full treatment capacity has been restored.
