Several City of Denton facilities will close and some services will operate on adjusted schedules Monday, Sept. 7, in observance of the Labor Day holiday. The city said regular operations will resume Tuesday, Sept. 8.

The Labor Day closures include libraries, the Denton Municipal Court, Animal Services, the Linda McNatt Animal Care & Adoption Center, and several Parks and Recreation facilities. Curbside solid waste and recycling collections will be delayed by one day for the week of Sept. 7 to Sept. 11.

Holiday service information

  • City operations: Regular operations resume Tuesday, Sept. 8.
  • Airport: Airport administrative offices will be closed Monday, Sept. 7. The air traffic control tower will be open from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., and the airfield will remain open 24 hours a day throughout the holiday. Airport Operations is available 24/7 at (940) 349-7722.
  • Animal Services and Denton Animal Shelter: Animal Services and the Linda McNatt Animal Care & Adoption Center will be closed Monday, Sept. 7. Regular hours resume Tuesday, Sept. 8. To report an animal-related non-emergency, call (940) 349-8181. In an emergency, call 911.
  • Libraries: All libraries will be closed Monday, Sept. 7. Regular hours resume Tuesday, Sept. 8.
  • Municipal Court: Denton Municipal Court will be closed Monday, Sept. 7. Online options and automated phone payments remain available 24 hours per day. Normal business hours resume Tuesday, Sept. 8.
  • Parks and Recreation closures: The Denton Civic Center, Denia Recreation Center, MLK Jr. Recreation Center, North Lakes Rec Center, Denton Senior Center, and American Legion Hall Senior Center will be closed Monday, Sept. 7. Regular hours resume Tuesday, Sept. 8.
  • Parks and Recreation openings: Water Works Park and the Denton Natatorium will remain open for normal hours during the holiday. Sept. 7 will be the last day of the season for Water Works Park. The Denton Civic Center Pool will be closed Sept. 7.
  • Denton Tennis and Pickleball Center: Open normal hours, 8 a.m.-9 p.m., during the holiday.
  • North Lakes Driving Range: Open normal hours, 8 a.m.-9 p.m., during the holiday.
  • Public safety: All public safety personnel will be on duty during the holiday. The Denton Police Department non-emergency number is (940) 349-8181. In an emergency, dial 911.
  • Utilities: Customer Service will be closed Monday, Sept. 7, and will reopen at normal business hours Tuesday, Sept. 8. To report a utility service emergency, call Utilities dispatch at (940) 349-7000.
  • Denton 311: Denton 311 will be available on the Denton 311 app, by dialing 311 on a mobile phone, or by calling (940) 349-7311 from a landline.

Curbside collection schedule

Due to the holiday, all curbside collections will be delayed by one day the entire week of Sept. 7 to Sept. 11. The city listed the following changes:

  • Monday collection rolls to Tuesday.
  • Tuesday collection rolls to Wednesday.
  • Wednesday collection rolls to Thursday.
  • Thursday collection rolls to Friday.

Residents needing urgent help during the holiday should use the listed emergency and non-emergency phone numbers, while routine city operations are scheduled to resume Tuesday, Sept. 8.
