October 9, 2025 – Denton County Public Health (DCPH) has identified a mosquito trap west of Prosper and southeast of Pilot Point in unincorporated Denton County that tested positive for the West Nile Virus (WNV). In response, DCPH will perform preventive fogging in the area.

The fogging initiative will start on Friday, October 10, 2025, and will continue through Thursday, October 16, 2025, weather permitting. Fogging will be conducted from 9 PM to 5 AM using truck-based ultra-low volume methods.

Health Safety Recommendations

  • Drain standing water to reduce mosquito breeding sites, such as bird baths, flowerpots, and clogged rain gutters. Consider using BTI briquettes, also known as mosquito dunks, in water that cannot be eliminated.
  • Dress in long sleeves and pants when outdoors and apply repellent to clothing.
  • Defend yourself by using EPA-registered mosquito repellents containing DEET, Picaridin, or Oil of Lemon Eucalyptus.

For more information, including detailed fogging maps and updates, residents are encouraged to visit the DCPH West Nile Virus website at DentonCounty.gov/WNV. Residents in the affected area will also be notified through emergency alerts and local signage.
