Denton, TX – August 27, 2024 – The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) has announced updates to the ongoing road closures in downtown Denton, originally scheduled to begin on Monday, August 26, as part of extensive infrastructure improvements. The closures will impact both N. Locust and N. Elm Streets between W. Hickory and W. McKinney Streets, with construction now expected to last until September 30, barring any unforeseen delays.
Recent updates to the project have expanded the scope of work to include sections of Elm and Locust Streets on the Square, which will also be under construction during this period. Both Locust and Elm Streets will be completely closed between W. Hickory and W. McKinney Streets, although all cross streets within the closure will remain open to minimize disruption.
In response to the construction, City staff have collaborated with downtown stakeholders to offer free parking in select paid lots during the month of September. This effort is aimed at supporting local businesses and visitors while the construction is underway. A full list of available parking options can be found on Denton Mainstreet’s website.
The City of Denton continues to pledge active collaboration with local businesses to address any challenges during the construction period. Residents are encouraged to keep supporting downtown establishments throughout the project.
