Denton, TX, August 15, 2024 — The City of Denton has urged residents to conserve water as it nears the implementation of Stage 2 drought measures due to increasing water demands. The city announced today that it has reached day two of Stage 2 drought triggers, which occur when daily water usage exceeds 38 million gallons. If this threshold is crossed for a third consecutive day, additional water use restrictions will be enforced.

The high water demand is linked to ongoing repairs at one of Denton’s water treatment facilities, where two damaged filters have temporarily reduced the plant’s capacity. Should Stage 2 measures be activated, residents will face limitations, including a once-a-week irrigation schedule and restrictions on pool fills, drip irrigation, and foundation watering.

City officials are encouraging residents to adhere to the current twice-a-week irrigation guidelines and ensure that automatic irrigation systems are properly set and aligned. These conservation efforts, they note, are crucial in preventing the need for stricter water usage restrictions.

For more information and water-saving tips, residents are directed to visit the city’s Water Wise Denton resource page.
