Denton, TX, Sept. 16, 2025 – The Denton Fire Department (DFD) has achieved the highest possible rating from the Insurance Services Office (ISO) with a Class 1 Public Protection Classification (PPC), effective October 1, 2025. This recognition places the department among the top 1% of fire agencies nationwide, enhancing its reputation for fire suppression, emergency medical services, and community risk mitigation.

This upgrade from a Class 2 rating, established in 2018, comes as a result of strategic investments by the city. The improvements include enhanced training programs, equipment upgrades, better infrastructure collaborations, and advanced dispatch systems. These advancements have not only improved the DFD’s operational efficiency but also offer Denton property owners potential savings of 1-2% on their insurance premiums.

Fire Chief Kenneth Hedges remarked, “Our team has worked tirelessly to elevate our services, ensuring faster response times and better outcomes for our community. We’re honored to deliver this level of protection to Denton residents and businesses.”

The achievement follows DFD’s perfect-score accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation of Ambulance Services (CAAS) in August 2025 and recognition by the Commission of Fire Accreditation International (CFAI) in 2023.
