Listen to Story

June 27, 2025 – Denton County Public Health (DCPH) has identified a positive West Nile Virus (WNV) mosquito trap in unincorporated areas of Denton County, located north of Krum and south of Bolivar. In response, DCPH plans to conduct fogging in the affected area to control the mosquito population.

The fogging will take place over three sessions, weather permitting, starting from Saturday, June 28, 2025, and continuing through Thursday, July 3, 2025. Truck-based ultra-low volume fogging will occur between the hours of 9 PM and 5 AM.

Preventative Measures

DCPH encourages residents to adopt the following strategies to reduce the risk of WNV:

  • Drain standing water from places like bird baths, flowerpots, and clogged rain gutters to minimize mosquito breeding sites. BTI briquettes, also known as mosquito dunks, are recommended for areas of standing water that cannot be removed.
  • Dress in long sleeves and pants when outdoors and apply repellent to thin clothing.
  • Defend yourself by using EPA-registered repellents, ensuring they contain ingredients such as DEET, Picaridin, or Oil of Lemon Eucalyptus.

Maps showing the fogging areas and additional resources, including mosquito maps and the latest news, can be found at the DCPH West Nile Virus website at DentonCounty.gov/WNV. Residents within the affected zone will receive timely updates via emergency alerts and signage.
