The City of Denton has issued an urgent call for water conservation as it approaches Stage 2 drought measures, following a significant increase in water demand. The city reached the first day of Stage 2 drought triggers on August 7, after daily water usage surpassed the high demand threshold of 38 million gallons.

If this elevated demand continues for three consecutive days, Stage 2 drought measures will be implemented. These measures include limiting irrigation to one day per week and placing restrictions on activities such as pool fills, drip irrigation, and foundation watering.

The situation has been exacerbated by ongoing repairs at one of Denton’s water treatment facilities, where two damaged filters have temporarily reduced treatment capacity. As a result, city officials are strongly encouraging residents to conserve water to help avoid stricter restrictions.

Residents are advised to follow the current mandatory twice-a-week irrigation schedule and to check that their automatic irrigation timers and sprinkler systems are correctly set. These steps, according to the city, are among the most effective ways to conserve water during this period.

For more information and conservation tips, residents can visit the Water Wise Denton website.
