The University of North Texas has formally named its soccer stadium the Norma Knobel Hunt Stadium, celebrating an alumna whose influence significantly contributed to the growth of professional sports in the U.S., particularly soccer.
Norma Knobel Hunt, a 1960 honors graduate of North Texas State University, was an ardent supporter of soccer. Her contributions spanned from nurturing the North American Soccer League to advancing Major League Soccer and FC Dallas. UNT President Harrison Keller, Ph.D., stated, “This naming reflects the very best of what it means to be a North Texas graduate,” highlighting her leadership and generosity.
Jared Mosely, Vice President and Director of Athletics, emphasized her authentic influence on soccer, noting that naming the stadium in her honor celebrates her spirit and inspires future student-athletes.
“Our family is deeply honored by the University of North Texas naming its soccer stadium for our mother,” said Clark Hunt, Chairman and CEO of the Kansas City Chiefs and FC Dallas. Dan Hunt, President of FC Dallas, reminisced about his mother’s passion for soccer, referring to her as “the original soccer mom.”
Norma Knobel Hunt Stadium, located on the UNT campus in Denton, serves as home to the Mean Green Soccer and UNT Track & Field programs. The official naming ceremony will take place during a campus event on March 25, 2026, to honor Norma Hunt’s legacy and connection to North Texas.
