The City of Denton is calling on community members to participate in Stream Clean 2024, a local initiative aimed at removing litter from waterways across the city. This year’s event is scheduled for Saturday, December 7, from 8 a.m. to noon, with activities set to occur at various locations depending on volunteer assignments.
Volunteers are to gather at the Denton Civic Center Pool, located at 515 N. Bell Ave., for breakfast and a day-of registration between 8 a.m. and 8:45 a.m. Participants should complete their registration forms and volunteer waivers in advance, with physical copies required upon picking up cleanup supplies.
Registration and supply pickup take place at the Denton Civic Center, 321 E. McKinney St., with scheduled times on December 3 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and December 4 from 10 a.m. to 6:15 p.m. At these times, volunteers can collect free cleanup supplies and a Stream Clean T-shirt.
The event’s schedule on December 7 outlines that the litter cleanup will officially begin at 9 a.m., following the breakfast and registration period. Volunteers will work at assigned locations, addressing litter that has accumulated in storm drains and drainage ditches, which eventually enters lakes, streams, and rivers, affecting the city’s water quality and surroundings. The final collection of filled bags is scheduled for 11:30 a.m., with the event concluding at noon.
Participation in Stream Clean 2024 promises to enhance the appearance of Denton and its quality of life by ensuring cleaner local waterways. Those interested in making a difference can register online through the City of Denton’s website, where additional information and necessary forms are available.
