Earlier this year, the Denton City Council approved the Parks and Recreation Aquatics Master Plan, which outlines long-term improvements to the city’s aquatic facilities. Denton currently manages three outdoor aquatic locations—Water Works Park, Civic Center Pool, Natatorium, and Carl Young, Sr. Sprayground.

The Aquatics Master Plan builds upon recommendations from the city’s 2022 Parks, Recreation, and Trails System Master Plan. The new plan, adopted in February 2024, offers a detailed assessment of Denton’s aquatics system and provides a framework for future developments over the next 15 years. The plan compares Denton’s facilities to those in nearby cities, ensuring that local infrastructure meets the evolving needs of residents.

Developed with the help of consultants and public input from meetings held in 2022 and 2023, the plan includes design recommendations, cost estimates, and implementation strategies.

The first phase of updates, focused on Water Works Park, is now in the planning and design stage. This phase will introduce several new amenities, including a flat-water leisure pool, larger children’s play structures, indoor/outdoor multipurpose rooms, and additional shade structures. Security enhancements are also planned.

For more information on these updates, residents can visit Discuss Denton or read the full Aquatics Master Plan online.
