Denton, TX — The City of Denton has announced the temporary closure of the main runway at Denton Enterprise Airport for essential reconstruction work. The closure will begin on July 8, 2024, and the runway is expected to reopen on August 17, 2024.

This comprehensive reconstruction project is part of the city’s ongoing efforts to maintain and improve airport infrastructure, ensuring high standards of safety and service for all users. The project will involve a complete full-depth reconstruction of the 7,002-foot main runway. This includes the relocation of a taxiway segment, the installation of a sustainable LED lighting system, and enhancements to drainage to support all-weather operations.

Key Details of the Closure:

  • Closure Start Date: July 8, 2024
  • Expected Reopening Date: August 17, 2024
  • Scope of Work: Resurfacing, installation of new lighting systems, drainage improvements, and structural enhancements
  • Impact: Temporary suspension of all flights operating from the main runway, with alternative arrangements for affected flights to utilize the airport’s secondary runway

Airport Director Ryan Adams emphasized the significance of the project, stating, “It’s difficult to understate the impact of the reconstructed runway on the future of the airport and the importance of the partnership between the City, Federal Aviation Administration, and TxDOT in making it a reality. The project will ensure safe, reliable, and more sustainable infrastructure for our fliers and the regional businesses and customers who rely on them.”

During the closure period, flights that normally operate from the main runway will be diverted to Denton Enterprise Airport’s secondary runway. The city is coordinating with pilots, air traffic control, aviation authorities, and other stakeholders to minimize disruption and ensure a smooth transition during the reconstruction.
