DENTON, TX – October 11, 2023 – The City of Denton has announced a public consultation period in preparation for its application to the Pathways to Removing Obstacles to Housing grant program, a competitive funding opportunity supported by the Department of Housing and Urban Development. The city is seeking $10 million in funding to advance its goals outlined in the Consolidated Plan for Housing and Community Development and the Denton Affordable Housing Strategic Toolkit.

From October 12 to 26, 2023, residents are invited to offer their comments and feedback on the city’s grant application. A virtual public hearing is scheduled for October 18 at 6 p.m., providing an additional platform for community members to express their views. Information on registration for the hearing and the process for public comment can be found on the city’s website, where a draft of the application is also available for review.

The Pathways to Removing Obstacles to Housing grant program is part of an $85 million initiative authorized under the Consolidated Appropriations Act. The program is aimed at supporting communities in identifying and addressing barriers to affordable housing production and preservation. Funded projects are expected to contribute to increased housing availability and reduced costs for families in the long term.

The City of Denton’s initiative to solicit public input underscores the importance of community engagement in the development and implementation of housing projects. Feedback from a diverse range of residents will inform the final grant application, ensuring that it reflects the needs and priorities of the community.

The City of Denton is committed to a transparent and inclusive application process and encourages all interested parties to participate in shaping the future of affordable housing in the community.
