Swim lessons at the Denton Natatorium are proving to be instrumental in enhancing water safety, skill development, and boosting confidence among participants. A recent account from a local mother, Joyce, highlights the significant impact these lessons have had on her son, particularly in managing his ADHD and impulsive behavior around water.

Joyce enrolled her son in swim lessons at the Denton Natatorium, recognizing the importance of water safety education from an early age. The personalized instruction he received, tailored to his unique needs, facilitated his acquisition of essential skills such as safe water entry and exit and back floating. This customized approach not only improved his safety but also instilled a sense of caution and respect for aquatic environments.

“Instructors have been fantastic in respecting his autistic identity and finding creative ways to engage him,” Joyce said. “They’ve implemented AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication) methods effectively, ensuring clear communication and enhancing his learning experience.”

Through these lessons, Joyce’s son has transformed into a confident swimmer, showcasing significant progress that fills his family with pride and reassurance. The skills learned are deemed life-saving and have contributed to his overall discipline, confidence, and appreciation for water safety.

The Denton Natatorium offers various programs, including swim lessons and water fitness classes, to promote water safety. For more information about these programs, visit the Denton Natatorium website or contact Maria Campbell.

Additionally, the Denton Natatorium will participate in the upcoming World’s Largest Swim Lesson Day on June 20, a global event aimed at drowning prevention. The event underscores the importance of swimming as a life-saving skill for children, with drowning being a leading cause of death for young children in the U.S.
