Denton, TX – April 2, 2024 – In a significant announcement for local business and cultural life in Denton, Rose Costumes, a cornerstone of the Denton community for nearly four decades, has revealed plans to relocate. The much-loved costume shop will move from its longstanding location on I-35 to the historic McNeill’s building on Oak Street, near Denton Square, starting in June 2024.

This move was ingeniously teased through a playful campaign starting in February, where rhyming clues hinting at the shop’s relocation were displayed in the windows of the McNeill’s building. These weekly clues drew upon the iconic and imaginative displays Rose Costumes is known for, such as Sweeney Todd’s Barber Shop and the Valley of the Dolls, building anticipation and mystery among the community.

Rose Costumes is not just moving locations but also returning to its original downtown roots. The business was founded in 1976 by Judy Smith, initially co-located with Jim’s Diner on Fry Street, which was owned by her husband. Over the years, as the business grew, it moved to Elm Street and later to its current location in Presidio Plaza in the early 2000s.

The current owner, Annemarie Aldrich, who took over the business in 2018 after serving as Store Manager for eight years, expressed excitement over the relocation. She views it as a revitalizing opportunity for Rose Costumes, especially following the challenges faced during the COVID-19 pandemic. Aldrich highlighted the move as a way to deepen community engagement and to celebrate the support the business received during tough times.

The relocation of Rose Costumes to the McNeill’s building signifies more than just a change of address. It represents a homecoming to downtown Denton and a new chapter in the storied life of a business that has, over the years, become synonymous with creativity, community, and resilience.
