Denton, TX, July 30, 2025 – The City of Denton’s Scale House has reopened following significant renovations, enhancing both its functionality and service quality. The facility plays a crucial role as the initial stop for customers disposing of materials at Denton’s landfill by ensuring accurate charges and managing waste types effectively.

“The Scale House is essential to how we serve our community,” stated Brenda Haney, Director of Solid Waste and Recycling. “These improvements not only bring the facility up to modern standards, but they also dramatically improve safety, efficiency, and overall service for both customers and staff.”

Key upgrades to the Scale House include:

  • Improved traffic flow: The facility now features five weigh scales—three for inbound and two for outbound traffic—to reduce congestion and improve vehicle movement.
  • Enhanced safety: An outdated overhead bridge system was replaced with clearly marked, safe walkways that connect all scales. A new walk-up window with a dedicated pedestrian path increases accessibility for customers.
  • Upgraded interior: The interior has been fully redesigned to improve staff working conditions, increase visibility, and enhance communication with customers.

These renovations represent a major step in the city’s efforts to invest in infrastructure and support sustainable and efficient solid waste management.
