In a significant advancement towards digital inclusivity, the City of Denton, Texas, unveiled new accessibility features on its public website on March 7, 2024. The initiative integrates “Recite Me,” a comprehensive suite of accessibility tools designed to make the city’s online presence more user-friendly for individuals with disabilities.

Acknowledging the essential role of digital access in contemporary society, Denton’s move addresses a common oversight in web design that frequently sidelines the needs of people with disabilities. By adopting Recite Me, the city aims to demolish these digital barriers, ensuring that its services and information are accessible to all community members without sacrificing design quality or functionality.

Dustin Sternbeck, the Chief Communications Officer for the City of Denton, highlighted the project’s core motive: enhancing the digital experience for residents and visitors with disabilities. “In a world increasingly driven by digital interactions, it’s imperative to offer an online environment that accommodates everyone’s needs,” Sternbeck commented.

The accessibility features are readily available to website visitors, who can activate them by clicking on a conspicuous icon located at the bottom right corner of the site. This action brings up a toolbar offering various adjustments, such as text size and font modifications, color contrast settings, reading aids, support for multiple languages, translation services, and customizable screen readers.

This initiative reflects Denton’s commitment to fostering a digitally inclusive community where access to online resources is unhampered by physical ability. To explore these features, users can visit the city’s website at www.cityofdenton.com.
