Additionally, it covers Mayor Hudspeth’s review of a proposed median opening on Bonnie Brae Street, addresses the Denia neighborhood’s concerns regarding a roadway project and construction waste management, and mentions Council Member McGee’s inquiry about the city’s engagement in the federal budget earmark process. These updates reflect the city’s efforts to enhance community services and address specific issues raised by constituents.
General Information
Animal Services Donation Station – The Linda McNatt Animal Care & Adoption Center now hosts a donation station, offering pet owners and adopters up to three free items for their animal care needs. This initiative addresses the surplus of donated items like small blankets, leashes, harnesses, pet bedding, food, carriers, and toys in good condition, which are not needed by the department. The program aims to support the community by redistributing these surplus items.
Fire Department Annual Report – The Fire Department has released its 2023 Annual Report, detailing call volumes, incident statistics, department achievements, and other significant events. This report reflects the department’s efforts and progress in serving the community over the past year.
Council Member Requests
Proposed Median Opening on Bonnie Brae – Mayor Hudspeth has addressed a community inquiry about a potential median opening on Bonnie Brae Street on February 23. Staff is reviewing possible solutions and plans to offer an update in the upcoming weeks.
Denia Residents’ Concerns – After a Denia neighborhood meeting on February 26, issues were raised regarding the Roselawn Drive roadway project, part of the Eagle Creek Forestar Development, and concerns over trash and debris management from the construction. The project is anticipated to conclude in early Summer 2024, with assurances that waste will be regularly collected and sites monitored by city inspection staff.
Federal Budget Earmark Requests – On March 1, Council Member McGee sought details on the City of Denton’s submissions for federal earmark requests. Earmarks were reintroduced in 2021 after being paused in 2011, allowing for specific district project funding. Until recently, Denton had not participated due to local representatives’ policies. With new representation by Rep. Ronny Jackson, the city is actively engaging in the FY25 earmark process with three proposals and will keep the community informed on progress.
