Denton, Texas, March 26, 2025 – The City of Denton has been officially recognized as a Texas Transparency Trailblazer by the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts. Denton stands out as one of only 11 local governments in the state to earn all six transparency stars under the Comptroller’s distinguished Transparency Stars program, marking a significant achievement in municipal governance.
The Texas Comptroller’s Transparency Star Program aims to applaud governmental entities that excel in providing transparency, serving as an instrumental tool for municipalities dedicated to fostering open communication and trust with their constituents. To earn this designation, entities must ensure accessibility and clarity in various critical areas, including Traditional Finance, Contracts and Procurement, Economic Development, Public Pensions, Debt Obligations, and Open Government and Compliance.
Denton’s commitment to transparency is showcased through the availability of clear and meaningful financial information. The city has taken substantial steps by publishing comprehensive financial documents, detailed summaries, visualizations, and downloadable data for public consumption and analysis.
City Manager Sara Hensley underscored the importance of transparency for building public trust. “As a public entity entrusted with taxpayer funds, we believe in providing clear and accessible financial information to our community,” Hensley noted. “The Transparency Stars program recognizes our commitment to open government and our dedication to building trust with our residents through transparency.”
