The City of Denton has announced the purchase of a 2.25-acre tract of land at 526 Hercules Lane in North Denton, marking a significant step in the city’s ongoing efforts to expand its park system. The land, currently featuring trees and open space, was acquired from a neighboring church and is set to be developed into a neighborhood park.

This acquisition, funded by park dedication and development fees charged to developers, is aimed at addressing the recreational needs of the growing community. The fees are designed to offset the impact of new developments on the existing park infrastructure, and are earmarked for use within a restricted geographical area near the development.

The new park land will benefit approximately 1,200 residents in the surrounding area, offering a green space within a 10-minute walk for those who previously lacked such proximity to a park. This purchase aligns with the City of Denton’s broader goal of ensuring that all residents have easy access to parks, trails, or open spaces.

Over the past two years, Denton’s Parks and Recreation Department has added more than 373 acres to the city’s park land inventory. Residents can track the progress of these additions and other departmental metrics through the City’s Parks and Recreation data dashboard, which is available online.
