DENTON, TX, Jan. 11, 2024 – The City of Denton has released its schedule for facility closures and service adjustments in observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, which will be on Monday, January 15. Regular operations for most city services and facilities will resume on Tuesday, January 16, 2024.

Parks and Recreation: The Martin Luther King, Jr. Recreation Center, North Lakes Recreation Center, Denia Recreation Center, Denton Senior Center, American Legion Hall Senior Center, Denton Civic Center, and the Denton Natatorium will be closed on January 15. However, the Denton Tennis and Pickleball Center will operate from noon to 9 p.m., and the North Lakes Driving Range will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the same day.

Libraries: All city libraries will observe the holiday closure on January 15 and an additional closure on January 19 for staff training. Regular hours will resume on January 20.

Solid Waste and Recycling: There will be no curbside trash, recycling, home chemical collection, or yard waste collection on January 15. The collection will be delayed by one day throughout the week. The City of Denton Landfill will remain open from 7 a.m. to noon.

Animal Services: The Linda McNatt Animal Care and Adoption Center will be closed on January 15. For animal non-emergencies, residents can call (940) 349-8181 and select option 1, while emergencies should be directed to 911.

Public Safety: Public safety personnel, including police and emergency services, will remain on duty during the holiday. The Denton Police Department can be reached for non-emergencies at (940) 349-8181.

Utilities: The Customer Service department will be closed on January 15, with regular hours resuming the following day. Utility service emergencies can be reported to the Utilities dispatch at (940) 349-7000.

Airport: While airport administrative offices will be closed, the air traffic control tower will operate from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. on January 15. The airfield will remain open 24 hours a day, with Airport Operations available at (940) 349-7722.
