The City of Denton Fire Department has announced the scheduling of its next Civil Service Entrance Exam, set for January 11, 2025, to establish an eligibility list for the position of Fire Recruit. Interested candidates must register online by December 29, 2024, at the official Denton Fire Department website.

The examination will occur at the Movie Tavern located at 916 W. University Drive in Denton, commencing promptly at 10:00 a.m. No late arrivals will be admitted. Candidates will be competing for a starting annual salary of $80,916.16, with the potential to earn up to $101,337.60 through educational incentives and step raises.

To qualify, applicants must possess a high school diploma or GED and meet the state’s civil service requirements. Additionally, candidates must have a basic structural fire protection personnel certification and an EMT-B certification from the Texas Department of State Health Services—or, alternatively, a paramedic certification from the same department.

Further conditions of employment include being between the ages of 18 and 35 on the exam date, having a valid Texas Class B driver’s license within one year, passing a criminal background check, a medical exam, and a physical and psychological test. Successful candidates must also demonstrate the ability to maintain harmonious relationships and effective communication skills.

The City of Denton Fire Department, known for its specialized units such as Aircraft Rescue Firefighting and Water Rescue, offers diverse opportunities for career advancement. The department follows a 24-hour on, 48-hour off shift pattern, providing continuous operational coverage.

For those who have served in the military, the department offers five bonus points to applicants who present their DD-214 form, demonstrating at least 180 days of active service with an honorable discharge. The registration process must be completed online, and study guides for the examination are accessible through Fire and Police Selection, Inc. Additional inquiries can be directed to Captain Lott at (940) 367-4222 or via email at firerecruiter@cityofdenton.com.

The City of Denton encourages applicants to prepare thoroughly, as the eligibility list derived from this examination will remain active for one year, potentially expediting their hiring process depending on departmental vacancies.
