In a vibrant display of support for those who have served, Denton County has joined the nationwide Operation Greenlight initiative by lighting up its Administrative Courthouse in a striking green hue. This act is part of a broader movement that encourages solidarity with veterans across the United States.
The sentiment of gratitude was palpable at the recent Denton County Commissioners Court meeting, where Paul Bastaich, the Director of the Veterans Service Officer, expressed his profound thanks to the court. He shared his appreciation for the decision to honor the service and sacrifice of Denton County’s veterans through this meaningful gesture.
The initiative, which runs from November 6th to 12th, aims to include all U.S. counties in demonstrating their support by lighting public buildings green. In Denton County, both the Administrative Courthouse and the historic Courthouse-on-the-Square have participated, starting the display on Monday evening, and will continue to shine green through Sunday.
Mr. Bastaich recounted the overwhelming sense of support he felt upon seeing the courthouses adorned in green and extended his gratitude to the Commissioners Court on behalf of all veterans and their families.
The Commissioners Court, in turn, acknowledged the contributions of Paul Bastaich and all veterans, highlighting their initiative to partake in Operation Greenlight as a symbol of their unwavering support.
The community is also encouraged to participate in Operation Greenlight by lighting their residences and businesses green as a sign of appreciation and acknowledgment of veterans.
In addition to the week-long lighting tribute, Denton County has organized a commemorative event set for 11 a.m. on Friday, November 10, at the Courthouse-on-the-Square lawn. The ceremony will feature guest speakers, a display of military equipment, a rifle volley, among other tributes, as a part of the county’s Veterans Day observances.
