Parks and Recreation Magazine Article – Recognition for Data Transparency
Denton Parks and Recreation was featured in Parks and Recreation Magazine for its data dashboards and the “Parks and Recreation Performance Scorecard,” which includes over 40 charts measuring service delivery and progress toward strategic goals. The article emphasizes the department’s commitment to transparency and sharing data with both staff and the public.
Denton County Days at the Texas Capitol – Legislative Advocacy for Denton
On April 2–3, Denton officials participated in Denton County Days at the Texas Capitol, engaging with state legislators and agencies. They advocated for maintaining local control over development, securing funding for critical infrastructure, and increasing state support for water and wastewater systems to accommodate the city’s growth.
Mayor’s Pet Spotlight – Rosie the Adoptable Terrier
Rosie, a 10-month-old American Pit Bull Terrier, has been at the shelter since December 2024 and is looking for a loving home. She is housebroken, leash trained, and responds well to food-based training. Rosie enjoys toys, is very social with people, and does best as the only pet in a home where she receives plenty of attention.
Council Member Requests
Street and Sidewalk Repair – Evaluation and Planned Improvements on Fowler Drive
Following a resident inquiry, staff assessed the street and sidewalk conditions on Fowler Drive. While the street does not meet criteria for full reconstruction, the sidewalks do. Sidewalk design is set to begin this year, with replacement scheduled for the next fiscal year. Street maintenance will continue as needed.
Highway Safety Improvement Program Application – City Support in Progress
In response to a resident inquiry, staff advised that a letter of support from City leadership would best strengthen the HSIP application. Staff is currently preparing the letter for submission to the Texas Department of Transportation’s Denton Division.
