The Friday Staff Report to City Council provides weekly...

The Friday Staff Report to City Council provides weekly updates between staff and Council. This week, it notes the suspension of the report on December 27 due to holiday closures, with distribution resuming January 3, and shares a regional TxDOT update from ITS. Additionally, staff will address traffic and pedestrian safety concerns on McKinney Street and Wind River Lane, resolve telecom utility box issues, relocate a disc golf course basket at North Lakes Park, and coordinate with Union Pacific to remove graffiti from the Fort Worth Drive railroad trestle, with completion dates set in early January.

General Information

Week of December 23 – Holiday Closure and Staff Report Schedule
The City Manager’s Office will not distribute a Friday Staff Report on December 27 due to the holidays and City office closures during the last week of December. Distribution will resume on January 3.

Council Member Requests

Traffic Evaluation on McKinney Street and Glenngary Way – Safety Measures
Following a resident’s request regarding U-turns and parking near a business on East McKinney Street, staff observed safety hazards caused by street parking and U-turns. To address this, a No Parking / Fire Lane designation and a center double-yellow line will be implemented from the business to the first residential driveway south of Glenngary Way by January 31.

Traffic Evaluation for Pedestrian Safety on Wind River Lane
To enhance pedestrian safety following a resident’s request, staff will install two yellow beacon lights on the “yield here to pedestrian” sign at the crosswalk on Wind River Lane. ADA crossing ramps in the area are also under evaluation for improvements. The updates are expected to be completed by January 31.

Telecom Utility Boxes – Repair and Replacement
Staff investigated exposed wires in telecom utility boxes reported by a resident and notified the telecom carrier. The carrier has communicated with the resident and plans to replace the affected pedestal.

Disc Golf Course Basket Relocation – Safety Adjustment
In response to safety concerns about the ninth basket at North Lakes Park Disc Golf Course near Bonnie Brae Street and Windsor Drive, staff worked with the Denton Disc Golf Club. The basket will be relocated by January 10.

Graffiti Removal on Fort Worth Drive Railroad Trestle
Staff are coordinating with Union Pacific Railroad to remove new graffiti on the railroad trestle above Fort Worth Drive. Cleaning will require temporary road closures during non-peak hours and is expected to be completed by January 10.
