The Friday Staff Report to City Council provides weekly updates between staff and Council. Denton Municipal Electric and Parks and Recreation evaluated solar-powered lighting but recommended against further implementation due to maintenance challenges. The City Secretary’s Office updated the Council Vote History page to include votes from 2018 through December 2024, with ongoing updates planned. Additionally, in response to a resident concern relayed by Council Member Holland, repairs to the intersection of Destin Drive and Sandestin Drive are scheduled once asphalt plants resume operations.

General Information

Solar-Powered Lighting – Evaluation and Recommendation
Denton Municipal Electric (DME) partnered with Parks and Recreation to assess the feasibility of implementing solar-powered street and public area lighting across the city. Currently, the Parks and Recreation department operates 77 solar-powered lights at four locations, but maintaining consistent lighting has been challenging. Following the evaluation, further implementation of solar-powered lighting is not recommended at this time.

Council Vote History Update – Public Access Improvements
In May 2024, the City Council approved the continued sharing of Council vote history on Denton’s website, with a focus on clearing a backlog of data. The City Secretary’s Office introduced a new process and has updated the Council Vote History page to include votes through the December 3, 2024, meeting. This information, covering Council votes from 2018 to the present, is now available on the City Council webpage and will be updated as meeting minutes are approved.

Council Member Requests

Street Pavement Repair – Planned Maintenance
On December 20, Council Member Holland relayed a resident’s concern about the condition of the intersection at Destin Drive and Sandestin Drive. The intersection’s appearance is impacted by an older microseal. Repairs are scheduled to take place once the asphalt plants resume operations.
