The Friday Staff Report to City Council provides weekly updates between staff and Council. The City of Denton’s Active Development Map, recognized in Texas Town and City magazine, has garnered over 10,000 views in six months. The USDA’s Summer Food Service Program is offering free meals to children under 18 at various locations throughout Denton, with details available online. In response to an inquiry from Mayor Pro Tem Meltzer, there are currently no mosquito spraying activities scheduled, and no human cases of West Nile Virus have been reported in Denton County.

General Information

Active Development Map Recognition – The City of Denton’s Active Development Map was highlighted in the Texas Municipal League’s Texas Town and City magazine in May. The map, available citywide, details ongoing development projects and has attracted over 10,000 views since its release six months ago.

Summer Meals for Kids – The United States Department of Agriculture’s Summer Food Service Program offers free meals and snacks to children under 18 during the summer months in Denton. No registration is necessary, and meal sites include schools, recreation centers, and other locations. Information about these sites can be found on the USDA website and the Find Help Denton County landing page.

Council Member Requests

Mosquito Spraying – Mayor Pro Tem Meltzer inquired about mosquito spraying plans in the City on June 10. Currently, there are no spraying activities scheduled. The City’s Mosquito Surveillance Response Plan outlines potential response efforts, including spraying. Additionally, there have been no human cases of West Nile Virus reported in Denton County.
