Beginning Thursday, Oct. 3, Walmart, in collaboration with aviation company Wing, will introduce a drone delivery service at their South Loop 288 location in Denton, Texas. The service will be available to residents within a six-mile radius of the store, offering delivery of select smaller items. To check eligibility, customers can verify their address through the Wing mobile app, which is also required for placing orders.
The drones will operate at an elevation of 200 to 250 feet between 10:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. daily. However, delivery hours will shift to account for daylight saving time, as no deliveries will occur after dark.
Equipped with low-resolution camera sensors for navigation, the drones do not have live video feeds. These sensors help ensure safe and reliable deliveries.
The Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) Metroplex is the first major U.S. metropolitan area to offer commercial drone deliveries, with service already active in Little Elm, Frisco, and now Denton.
