Creekside Disc Golf Course Unveils New Tee Boxes at North Lakes Park

DENTON, TX – North Lakes Park’s Creekside disc golf course has commenced construction on 18 brand-new circular tee boxes as of July 6. These tees will replace the smaller, outdated rectangular tee boxes that previously limited hole movement and course variety.

The new circular design promises to provide players with greater flexibility. In the past, the linear alignment of pins restricted players to specific shots. Now, with the round tees, players can approach the fairway from diverse angles, allowing for more strategic play.

Interestingly, just last year on August 7, 2021, North Lakes Park celebrated the inauguration of another 18-hole disc golf course. Instead of opting for a brand-new location, the Parks and Recreation Department, in collaboration with local volunteers, creatively used the existing park space for the course. The temporary tees for this course were repurposed from golf driving range mats.

Local volunteers, a cornerstone of the park’s maintenance and program success, consistently offer their time to assist with enhancements, events, and routine upkeep. Their service ensures the venue remains in prime condition, accommodating both the local community and disc golf aficionados from around North Texas.

Situated on the north side of Denton, the North Lakes Park disc golf courses are renowned for their expansive open space and picturesque lake setting. These courses are accessible to the public daily from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. at no charge. Disc golf, drawing parallels with traditional golf but utilizing plastic discs and disc golf baskets, presents an excellent avenue for outdoor recreation, fitness, and camaraderie among enthusiasts.

Beyond disc golf, North Lakes Park boasts a myriad of facilities including picnic spots, a dog park, athletic fields, playgrounds, trails, and a fishing-friendly lake. Further enhancing its recreational offerings, a state-of-the-art tennis center is anticipated to open its doors this summer, with an official dedication ceremony scheduled for October 14, 2023.
