The Denton County Commissioners have approved a substantial tax abatement agreement to facilitate the establishment of two manufacturing facilities by Wistron InfoComm (USA) Corporation. This decision is part of a broader effort to boost local employment and economic development.
Wistron, a major Taiwan-based electronics manufacturer, will purchase two sites at 15200 Heritage Way and 14601 Mobility Way. The company plans to create a total of 888 full-time jobs at these locations, offering an average base salary of $63,000. The initiative represents a $687 million investment.
“Wistron’s $687 million investment and creation of 888 new jobs marks a pivotal milestone for Denton County,” said Denton County Judge Andy Eads, emphasizing the project’s potential to strengthen the county’s role in the semiconductor supply chain.
Details of the tax abatement agreement include:
- 40% abatement capped at $3 million for Project Site 1 and 30% abatement capped at $900,000 for Project Site 2 for eight years.
- Increased abatement rates to 50% for Project Site 1 and 40% for Project Site 2 if both sites are completed, with a combined cap of $5 million over eight years.
“I am thrilled to have even more jobs on the horizon with starting wages beginning at $63,000,” said Precinct 3 Commissioner Bobbie J. Mitchell, highlighting the opportunity for residents to live, work, and play locally.
Project Requirements
- Complete real property improvements and have both sites fully operational by Dec. 31, 2026.
- Invest a minimum of $80 million on improvements at Project Site 1 and $32 million at Project Site 2.
- Spend at least $411 million on new tangible business property at Project Site 1 and $164 million at Project Site 2 by December 1, 2027.
- Create 634 new full-time jobs at Project Site 1 and 254 jobs at Project Site 2, each with an average base salary of at least $63,000.
Phil Huang, Sales/Service Director with Wistron, expressed enthusiasm for the company’s first U.S. manufacturing site at the Commissioners Court, where a framed proclamation from Governor Greg Abbott was presented.
Denton County competed with El Paso and Fremont, California to secure Wistron’s site selection. Recently, the Fort Worth City Council also approved a separate Tax Abatement Agreement with Wistron. This regional effort aims to solidify the county’s position in the global semiconductor and electronics manufacturing industry.
