Denton County Transportation Authority (DCTA) announced on April 28, 2023, that it will offer free transportation services to and from polling locations within its service area on Election Day, Saturday, May 6, 2023. No documentation will be required for riders to access the free rides.
The free rides initiative aims to encourage voter participation by making it easier for Denton County residents to reach polling stations. The following DCTA services will provide free rides on Election Day:
- A-train commuter rail
- Connect Bus (serving the city of Denton)
- UNT Campus Shuttle (serving the UNT campus and Denton)
- GoZone rideshare (serving two zones, Denton and Lewisville/Highland Village)
DCTA’s Chief Executive Officer, Paul Cristina, expressed the agency’s commitment to facilitating voter participation: “We want residents within our service area to have every opportunity to get to the polls on Election Day in Texas and to participate in our democracy, and we are doing our part by making it easy for people to get to the polls.”
GoZone rideshare, one of the services offering free rides, will only provide free transportation to or from polling locations within the Denton and Lewisville/Highland Village zones where it operates. Regular charges will apply for GoZone rides that do not include a polling location as a start or end point.
