DENTON, TX, Sept. 16, 2021 – The City of Denton, Denton Police Department, Denton Fire Department, and other City departments will participate in two National Night Out events on Thursday, Sept. 23, and Tuesday, Oct. 5, 2021. Residents are encouraged to attend the Citywide Kickoff or host a National Night Out Neighborhood event.

Attend the Citywide Kickoff Party

Returning from 2019 is the Citywide Kickoff Party which will be hosted in advance of National Night Out to allow residents an additional option to meet public safety and local government officials.

Residents are invited to attend this community celebration from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 23 at the Denton Civic Center (321 E. McKinney St.) parking lot and Quakertown Park. Join first responders and City officials and staff for an evening of free food, drinks, carnival games, and more. This family-friendly kickoff is an opportunity for everyone in our community to get to know the police officers, firefighters, and City employees who serve them.

In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, this year’s Kickoff event will be held completely outdoors. Face coverings will be recommended for all participants when not physically distancing.

Host a Neighborhood Party

If you or your neighborhood would like City staff (including the Police Department, Fire Department, and other City departments) to attend your National Night Out gathering on Tuesday, Oct. 5, please fill out the registration form available at www.cityofdenton.com/nno. The deadline to register and ensure a visit from City departments is Friday, Sept. 24.

About National Night Out

National Night Out is a community event to raise awareness about community policing in our neighborhoods. Across Denton, neighborhoods, homeowners’ associations, and citizens’ groups will hold block parties and barbecues to encourage neighbors to get to know each other and local law enforcement agencies and help make their community safer.

The City of Denton has been an active participant in National Night Out events for a number of years and enjoys getting to know citizens at gatherings throughout Denton. While some neighborhoods host gatherings, others join in by turning on their front porch light in support of each other and law enforcement. No matter the size of the event, National Night Out is about strengthening neighborhood spirit.

To continue to foster community awareness and strengthen citizen engagement, the City will have staff from various departments visit registered community events during National Night Out. Elected officials and staff from Police, Fire, Utilities, and more will be on-hand to visit with residents and talk about City services and programs.
