General Information
City Council Priorities Update – The City Manager’s Office has released a report detailing progress on Council priorities through the first quarter of the fiscal year. The report includes updates on over 100 initiatives aligned with the Council’s Key Focus Areas, with specific details on the Climate Action Plan (pg. 15) and the Affordable Housing Strategic Toolkit dashboard (pg. 10). Updates are also available on the City’s public dashboard.
Year in Review – A video highlighting the achievements and progress of FY 23-24 has been shared, showcasing the efforts of city staff, community partners, and the impact of various policies and initiatives. The video is available for public viewing.
Fine Arts Theatre – Restoration of the historic Fine Arts Theatre is underway, with an expected completion time of 12-15 months. The City Council approved an incentive agreement with Fine Arts Theatre LLC, led by Alex Payne and Brad Andrus, to revitalize the long-dormant venue. This project supports Denton’s economic development strategy, enhancing the downtown area’s cultural and artistic appeal. Updates can be found at www.texasfineartstheatre.com.
Mayor’s Pet Spotlight – Lucy, a one-year-old American Pit Bull Terrier, has been in the shelter since October 31, 2024, and urgently needs a foster or adoptive home. She is highly food-motivated, knows basic commands, is housebroken, and enjoys playtime. She would do best as the only pet in a household.
Housing Tax Credit Applications – Developers of Housing Tax Credit projects have scheduled neighborhood meetings ahead of public hearings on February 18. Meetings will be held on February 12 at Denia Recreation Center (5:30 p.m.) for the Roselawn Development and Serve Denton (6:30 p.m.) for McAdams Haven. Public hearings will take place in the City Council Chambers at 6:30 p.m. on February 18.
Monthly Mobility Report – The latest report from Innovative Transportation Solutions (ITS) provides an update on Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) regional projects. The report is available for review.
Council Member Requests
Parade Route Concessions – A local organization inquired about selling beverages along the 4th of July parade route. To sell water, they must obtain a Solicitor and Itinerant Merchant Permit, which is available on the City’s permitting website.
Plugged Gas Well Setback – During the Feb. 4 Council Meeting, it was clarified that active gas wells in the extraterritorial jurisdiction (ETJ) require a 100-foot setback, increased to 200 feet for the Sanctuary development. However, once a gas well is plugged, no setback regulations apply.
Meter Reader – Residents inquired about proper attire for meter readers. They are required to wear reflective vests displaying either the Denton Municipal Electric (DME) contractor or the contractor’s company name. If uncertain about someone accessing your property, contact customer service at 940-349-8700.
