The Friday Staff Report to City Council provides weekly updates between staff and Council. This week’s report highlights include transportation project updates, community engagement, and operational improvements. Volunteers at Stream Clean 2025 collected over a ton of waste from local waterways, while the City announced changes to coin handling in Customer Service to improve efficiency. Herman, a lively shelter dog, was featured in the Mayor’s Pet Spotlight. Staff also responded to Council Member inquiries about a water main repair in Denia, lighting at Eureka Park, changes in utility billing envelopes, and a missing street sign on Pecan Creek Road. The Street Closure Report outlines upcoming ADA sidewalk repairs on Audra Lane.

General Information

Monthly Mobility Report – Innovative Transportation Solutions provided the latest TxDOT regional project overview, detailing active and planned roadway construction across Denton County and surrounding areas. The report includes updates on major projects such as I-35 and Loop 288 improvements.

Mayor’s Pet Spotlight – Herman, a social and energetic dog, was showcased for adoption. Known for his playful personality and love of running, Herman thrives with active companionship and is quick to learn new tricks through his motivation for food and interaction.

Stream Clean Event – Nearly 200 volunteers participated in Stream Clean 2025, removing 1.4 tons of debris from Denton’s waterways, including large items like shopping carts and bicycles. The event demonstrates strong community involvement in maintaining environmental sustainability.

Coin Handling at Customer Service – Beginning November 1, Customer Service will discontinue coin transactions after an internal review revealed they made up only 0.1% of utility payments but consumed over 100 staff hours annually. Customers were notified in advance of this efficiency-driven change.

Council Member Requests

Water Main Break in Denia – A water main break on Parvin Street was temporarily patched using a cold mix before crews installed a permanent asphalt surface. Additional milling and paving repairs on Jaqueline Drive are scheduled for completion early next week.

Eureka Park Tennis Court Light – Following a report of a light outage, Parks staff confirmed the issue and ordered a replacement fixture. With a six-week delivery time, the repair will be completed as soon as the new part arrives.

Return Envelopes for Utility Billing – Customer Service removed return envelopes from mailed bills after determining fewer than 25% were used. The change was implemented in mid-September and is being monitored to ensure customer satisfaction.

Missing Sign on Pecan Creek Road – After a March vehicle accident destroyed a stop sign, the pole was replaced but missing street signs were later reinstalled in October. The intersection signage has now been fully restored to its original configuration.
