General Information
May 25 Tornado Response – The Denton Fire Department assisted Texas Task Force 2 Urban Search and Rescue team by treating and transporting an injured search canine. The canine was taken from the tornado path to an emergency veterinarian clinic in Denton.
Spanish Closed Caption for Council Meetings – The City will discontinue live Spanish interpreters for Council regular meetings and provide closed caption interpretation for all Council meetings, including past meetings that did not include Spanish interpretation.
Tourism Public Improvement District Created – Denton hoteliers successfully petitioned the City to create a Tourism Public Improvement District (TPID) to promote Denton tourism. The City Council passed a resolution creating the district on June 18. During the public hearing, two questions were raised regarding the process for new hotels joining the district and how the TPID fee would appear on hotel billing statements. New hotels must sign a petition or consent form and receive Council approval to join the district. Hotels will likely list the fee under the name Tourism Public Improvement District. A second public hearing on July 16 will address district management, the service plan, and the assessment method and roll.
Council Member Requests
Storm Drain on Stonegate Drive – On June 12, Council Member Jester forwarded a resident’s request to add drainage inlets to Stonegate Drive to prevent water from overtopping the curb during heavy rains. This project would require significant investment and will be considered as a future capital improvement project.
Expunction Clinic – On June 19, Council Member Byrd requested the Expunction Clinic flyer be distributed to all Council members. The flyer has been circulated to the Mayor and Council and will also be shared on City platforms.
