In 2019, the City engaged economic development consulting firm TIP Strategies to lead Denton’s comprehensive economic development strategic planning process. Since November 2019, staff and the TIP team have worked together to develop a plan that outlines Denton’s economic development vision and identifies the strategies and tactics to make that vision a reality. Community members and various internal and external stakeholders were engaged throughout the process, with the Economic Development Partnership Board serving as the

primary steering committee. After more than a year of research, analysis, discussion, and community and stakeholder engagement, the new Economic Development Strategic Plan was approved by the Denton City Council on Tuesday, Feb. 9.

The Economic Development Strategic Plan is the guiding policy document for achieving the economic development goals in Denton. It’s built around three main goals: accelerate recovery, foster growth, and strengthen community inclusion, which are broken down into strategies and actions and create the roadmap for economic development policies and programs. The Plan is built around continued stakeholder engagement and transparency, achieved through a dynamic and robust implementation matrix, outlining specific tasks, a proposed timeline, and estimated costs for all of the major economic development activities for the next three to five years.

The Plan is designed to ensure that the City and our partners are working toward the same goals; that we assess and adjust our organizational direction; that we build upon our strengths and address our weaknesses; and leverage our assets to create an economic ecosystem in Denton in which all business can succeed.
