Three members of the University of North Texas community have been named recipients of the prestigious Fulbright Program awards for the 2025-2026 academic year, continuing the institution’s tradition of fostering international collaboration.

The Fulbright Program, initiated by the U.S. Congress in 1946, aims to foster mutual understanding between the U.S. and other countries through research, study, and teaching opportunities. It provides funding for academic staff and students to work on various international projects.

For over a century, UNT has seen more than 100 faculty and staff named as Fulbright Scholars and Specialists. Additionally, since 1949, over 60 students have participated in the Fulbright Student program.

Fulbright Scholar Awards

  • Julie Leventhal, a principal lecturer in the Honors College, will be returning to Romania to teach at the West University of Timisoara during the spring of 2026. This marks her second Fulbright stint in Romania, where she will again focus on Romanian family values among young adults. Leventhal also plans to offer family education workshops.
  • Feifei Pan, a professor of geography and the environment, will be in Türkiye in the fall to develop an irrigation scheduling tool using weather forecasts and machine learning to improve water use efficiency. Pan also plans to create a “Hydrological Modeling” course based on his experiences.

Fulbright U.S. Student Program

  • Lily Stone will serve as an English teaching assistant at a high school in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, starting this fall. Stone intends to compare German and American cultures and engage with her students during her stay.

UNT’s Global Engagement Office offers Fulbright Faculty Workshops, while students can participate in virtual sessions through Fulbright Fridays to learn more about the program. Interested members can find more information and application details at UNT’s Fulbright Program page or contact via email at fulbright@unt.edu.
