The University of North Texas (UNT) is set to commence a significant infrastructural project on Union Circle on May 14, 2025. This project is part of a series of enhancements directed by the City of Denton, aiming to modernize the area while addressing infrastructural needs beneath the surface.

  • Key project details include:
  • Start Date: May 14, 2025
  • Expected Completion: End of the fall semester 2025
  • Location: Union Circle, UNT Campus
  • Impact: Temporary closure of Union Circle and restricted access to parking spaces in Union Circle Garage and Lot 49

Union Circle, a pivotal road near the heart of UNT’s campus, will undergo a comprehensive renovation starting immediately after the conclusion of the spring semester. Deputy Director of Capital Projects Seth Garcia confirmed the ambitious timeline, noting the deployment of three utility crews to expedite the process. Despite the heavy impact expected from these changes, efforts are being made to ensure that the road restoration is completed by the end of the upcoming fall semester.

Upon completion, the traffic direction on Union Circle will be permanently altered to a counter-clockwise flow, paving the way for improved traffic dynamics and necessitating modifications to the Union Circle Garage parking access.

In response to these changes, Transportation Services is set to implement new parking initiatives. This includes introducing concentric hourly parking rates to provide affordable options on campus peripheries and enhancing DCTA bus service routes to facilitate access from these areas.

Significantly, the project aims to upgrade the underlying infrastructure, replacing outdated sewage and water pipes — thereby preempting potential issues.

UNT Assistant Director of Facilities Luke Taylor emphasized the long-term benefits, highlighting the collaborative effort with the city to deliver a durable, aesthetically pleasing roadway for the university community.
