The Center for Women in Government at Texas Woman’s University is set to host the National Education for Women’s Leadership (NEW) Program from June 8-12, 2025. This notable program, designed by the Center for American Women in Politics (CAWP), aims to empower undergraduate students across Texas with essential civic and public service leadership skills.

  • Event Details:
  • Dates: June 8-12, 2025
  • Location: Texas Woman’s University, Denton, Texas
  • Participants: 25 undergraduate students from various universities in Texas

Participants were selected through a competitive process, underscoring the prestigious nature of the event. The program’s curriculum is comprehensive, featuring workshops on media literacy, public speaking, advocacy strategies, and public policy. A key highlight will be a trip to the Texas State Capitol, offering students a chance to engage with legislators and gain a first-hand understanding of the legislative process.

Marlene Phillips, director of the Center for Women in Government, expressed enthusiasm about the program’s potential impact. “We’re proud to join this national network designed by CAWP to inspire a new generation of leaders,” Phillips remarked. “We look forward to an engaging and impactful week that will help shape the civic futures of these promising students.”

About the Center for Women in Government:

The Center is a part of the Jane Nelson Institute for Women’s Leadership at Texas Woman’s University. The Institute is committed to preparing women for leadership roles in various fields. It encompasses three specialized centers: the Center for Student Leadership, the Center for Women Entrepreneurs, and the Center for Women in Government, all of which focus on equipping women with the skills to excel in business, entrepreneurship, and public service.

This event is more than an educational opportunity; it serves as a pivotal platform for shaping the next generation of female leaders in Texas. By providing students with the necessary tools and experiences, the NEW Program helps to cultivate a robust pipeline of future leaders equipped to tackle public service challenges.
