The Texas Woman’s University (TWU) Division of Music in Denton will make its musical theatre debut with ‘Out of the Blue,’ a new musical created by an Emmy-award-winning team. The performance is scheduled for November 2-3 at the Margo Jones Performance Hall on the TWU campus.
‘Out of the Blue,’ inspired by true events, tells the story of Sienna, a 17-year-old art student who faces the challenge of losing her eyesight during her senior year in high school. Despite the diagnosis, which threatens her dream of attending her chosen art school, Sienna is aided by her friends and a volunteer tutor to pursue her vision of attending college and becoming an artist.
The musical’s story and book are penned by Emmy-winning writer Mark Mazzarella, with music and lyrics by Sean P. Pallatroni, also an Emmy-winning composer. Mazzarella brings extensive experience, including two Tony nominations and works in theatre, television, and film. Pallatroni, recognized for his contributions to musical theatre and classical compositions, adds his expertise to this production.
Mazzarella commented, “We look forward to watching these young aspiring performers bring this thought-provoking and engaging new musical to life. This experience will offer the students and faculty of TWU a valuable first-hand look into the process of developing a new musical.” He highlighted the opportunity for student performers, technical crew, and musicians to benefit from this collaboration.
Tickets for the event are priced at $10 for general admission, $5 for students and seniors, and are free for children under 12. They are available online at the university’s music commerce website. TWU, established in Denton in 1901, is recognized as the nation’s largest university system focused on women, with a School of Arts & Design that includes various programs such as Music and Theatre.
