The 2020 Denton Mobility Plan is a multimodal mobility study and strategy to address citywide transportation, including vehicles, transit, bicycles, and pedestrians, for years to come.  The Plan will be completed in early 2020 and will be used to guide the City of Denton’s short, mid, and long-range mobility planning efforts.

The Denton community is encouraged to share their mobility and transportation thoughts by participating in public meetings and completing the Mobility Plan Survey.

Project Information

The overall goal of the 2020 Denton Mobility Plan is to approach mobility from the perspective of finding the most efficient means of moving people and freight within and through the City over the next 30 years.

There are four primary objectives with the project:

  1. Engage the community to understand mobility issues;
  2. Build on previous plans;
  3. Utilize reliable data sources to weigh mobility options; and
  4. Develop an implementation strategy.

The project will involve a number of planning activities with some of the key project components being the collection of data and stakeholder input, updates to the Denton Master Thoroughfare Plan and Bicycle Plan, creation of a Pedestrian Plan, and updates to the Denton Transportation Impact Fee.

Just as important as the technical analysis, the engagement of the Denton community is a critical and key element in the Denton Mobility Plan.

Mobility Plan Timeline

While numerous planning activities will be occurring simultaneously over the coming months, the development of the 2020 Denton Mobility Plan will follow three key steps

Step 1: Data Collection
June 2019 – September 2019

This initial step in the process will involve the review of existing plans and documents, the gathering of stakeholder and community input, and the analysis of current mobility facilities such as roadways or and sidewalks.

Step 2: Plan Development
June 2019 – November 2019

As data is begin collected, planners will update the existing Master Thoroughfare Plan and Bicycle Plan. This process starts with a needs analysis, development of plan priorities, and cost estimates. In addition to these plans, a new Pedestrian plan will be developed and included in the overall Mobility Plan.

Step 3: Draft and Final Plans
November 2019 – February 2020

With plan development substantially complete, the planning team will create a draft mobility plan. This draft will include findings and mobility recommendations for the City of Denton.  After review, the final plan will be completed in February 2020.
