General Information

A nationwide search is being conducted to find a new Deputy City Manager, with the process expected to last into the spring. The executive team is excited to announce that Cassey Ogden will be the interim Assistant City Manager beginning Saturday, Dec.

The Municipal Court will delay opening until 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 14 for staff development.

The City Manager’s Office will not distribute a Friday Staff Report on Dec. 30 in anticipation of the holidays.

Denton County MHMR is conducting a Community Needs Assessment to determine gaps in services. An online survey about mental health and paper surveys are available at MHMR’s mental health offices.

Dr./Battalion Chief Megan Schuth received the professional designation of Fire Marshal this week.

The City of Denton will engage the community in developing a climate action plan, with an introductory webinar on December 14.

The Parks and Recreation Department and the Environmental Services and Sustainability Department will recommence efforts to restore native habitats by controlling invasive Chinese Privet in December 2022. Parks and Recreation staff will help restore the forest understory and improve habitat conditions by possibly applying a native seed mix site-wide and by planting additional seedlings and native shrubs.

Council Member Requests

Council Member Davis shared concerns from a resident regarding the ongoing construction at Sam Bass Boulevard. Staff confirmed that the project has reached a point where only smaller tasks remain to tie in the new water main.

The Mayor asked staff to reach out to a local business owner about the City’s noise ordinance. Staff is evaluating the ordinance and will reach out to the business owner as revisions progress.

Upcoming Community Events and Meetings

City Circle Series – The Denton Senior Center will host a program about scams and how to avoid them on Dec. 15 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Wreaths Across America – Denton Parks and Recreation will host a National Wreaths Across America Day event on December 17th at Oakwood Cemetery. The wreath-laying ceremony will include an address by Rev. Reginal Logan, and the delivery and placement of the wreaths.

Cookies and Cocoa Drive-Thru – Join Parks and Recreation for a drive-thru holiday treat on Saturday, Dec. 17 at Denia Recreation Center (1001 Parvin Street). Staff will provide delicious hot cocoa and cookies to participants from 4 to 8 p.m.
