The Friday Staff Report to City Council is a weekly communication between staff and Council. Denton updated Core Values. New electric vehicle chargers. Stream Clean 2022 was a success. Upcoming events Movie in the Park: Hocus Pocus, Halloween Hike, and others. Upcoming road closures for construction.

General Information

City Manager Sara Hensley announced a set of updated City Core Values, which include Inclusion, Collaboration, Quality Service, Strategic Focus, and Fiscal Responsibility.

Denton Municipal Electric has added 2 new electric vehicle chargers to the Development Services Building.

A Developer Town Hall will be held to discuss updates to the Roadway Impact Fee and next steps. The Town Hall will be held at the Development Services Center (401 N. Elm St.) from 10 a.m. to 11 am.

The Denton Parks and Recreation Department is working with the community to create temporary signage honoring the 100th anniversary of Quakertown. A permanent memorial is being planned for Quakertown Park in coordination with the Downtown Denton Area master plan.

Stream Clean 2022 was a success, with over 500 volunteers collecting more than 500 bags of trash and recyclables.

Council Member Requests

The smoking ordinance prohibits smoking within 30 feet of a bar/restaurant entrance, including the use of tobacco, weed, and other plant products or the use of an electronic cigarette or similar device. A business owner has the right to allow smoking on an open-aired outdoor patio, regardless of its location.

The Mayor Pro Tem contacted the City staff to inquire about construction at Londonderry and Sam Bass Boulevard, which is related to water and sanitary sewer improvements by a private developer. The contractor is working with the apartment complex to identify options to help mitigate the traffic in the parking lot.

Upcoming Community Events and Meetings

Denton County Homeless Veterans Stand Down – The Denton County Veterans Coalition is hosting a stand-down event for veterans experiencing homelessness on October 27. View Flyer.

Halloween Tennis Fun – There is a tennis event at the Goldfield Tennis Center on October 28th from 6-7:30pm.

Movie in the Park: Hocus Pocus – There will be a free Movie in the Park on October 28th where people can watch the Sanderson sisters come alive again. There is a costume contest at 6:30 p.m. with categories for spookiest, most creative, and best group or duo costumes.

Halloween Hike – Denton Parks and Rec will host a family-friendly night hike at South Lakes Park Nature Trail on Friday, October 28 from 6 to 8 p.m.
