Brittany Sotelo Appointed as New Economic Development Director for the City of Denton

DENTON, TX, March 18, 2024 – The City of Denton has announced the appointment of Brittany Sotelo as the city’s new Economic Development Director. The selection comes as the culmination of a nationwide search, aimed at finding a candidate capable of spearheading the city’s efforts to bolster economic growth and vitality.

Sotelo, a seasoned professional with more than eleven years of experience in economic development, will now lead the city’s efforts in strategic planning, stakeholder engagement, investment attraction, and the advancement of job opportunities. Her role will specifically focus on promoting sustainable economic growth and prosperity within Denton.

City Manager Sara Hensley expressed confidence in Sotelo’s ability to drive business and commercial development in the city, citing her extensive background and innovative approach as key assets. “Brittany brings a depth of economic development experience that will undoubtedly advance our business and commercial development,” said Hensley.

Before her new role in Denton, Sotelo served as the Vice President of Business Retention and Expansion at the Corpus Christi Regional Economic Development Corporation. There, she was instrumental in establishing programs focused on workforce development, manufacturing, and innovation in the Coastal Bend region. Her career also includes positions as an Economic Development Specialist for the City of Arlington, Texas, and as a Marketing Specialist for the Odessa Chamber of Commerce, where she managed business retention and expansion programs.

Reflecting on her appointment, Sotelo emphasized her commitment to collaborative work with stakeholders to build on the city’s previous successes and to drive positive change. “North Texas is a dynamic and booming region, and I am eager to contribute to Denton’s vibrant future,” Sotelo remarked.

Sotelo is a graduate of the University of Texas of the Permian Basin, where she earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in Marketing. Her appointment is seen as a strategic move to leverage her vast experience and innovative strategies to enhance Denton’s economic landscape.
