City of Denton Announces Juneteenth Holiday Facility Closures and Service Adjustments

DENTON, TX, June 16, 2025 – The City of Denton has announced a series of closures and service adjustments in observance of the Juneteenth holiday. As a reminder to residents, most city operations, including some administrative offices and recreational facilities, will temporarily close on Thursday, June 19, 2025. Regular operations are scheduled to resume on Friday, June 20, at 8 a.m.

Airport: On June 19, the airport administrative offices will be closed. However, both the air traffic control tower, operating from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., and the airfield will remain accessible 24 hours. Airport Operations can be reached at any time for inquiries at (940) 349-7722.

Animal Services and Shelter: Services including the Linda McNatt Animal Care & Adoption Center will be closed for the holiday. Operations will continue as usual on June 20. For non-emergency animal-related issues, residents can call (940) 349-8181, with emergency calls directed to 911.

Libraries: All Denton library branches will be closed on June 19, resuming their regular schedules the following day.

Municipal Courts: The Denton Municipal Court will not be operational on June 19. However, residents can still access online services and make automated phone payments, available around the clock. Regular court operations will pick back up on June 20.

Parks and Recreation: Facilities such as the Denton Civic Center and several recreation centers will close their doors on June 19, while the North Lakes Driving Range, Denton Natatorium, Water Works Park, Civic Center Pool, and the Denton Tennis and Pickleball Center will continue to welcome patrons.

Public Safety: Public safety services remain active during the holiday, ensuring continued support for the community. The non-emergency contact number for Denton Police Department is (940) 349-8181, with 911 remaining the primary contact for emergency situations.

Solid Waste & Recycling: There will be a one-day delay in curbside collections due to the holiday. Therefore, if your service day is usually Thursday, it will be rescheduled to Friday. The full 2025 Curbside Collection Holiday Schedule is available online.

Utilities: Customer Service desks will be unavailable on June 19, with normal operations restarting on June 20. For immediate utility service emergencies, Utility dispatch can be contacted at (940) 349-7000.
