Denton, TX – Keep Denton Beautiful is calling for volunteers as part of its 37th annual Great American Cleanup (GAC), the largest and longest-running community cleanup event in the city. This year’s event is set to take place on Saturday, March 29, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., and organizers are recruiting nearly 2,000 participants to help improve the community’s beauty and environmental health.

Date: Saturday, March 29, 2025
Time: 9 a.m. – 11 a.m.
Location: Citywide cleanup efforts across Denton
Registration Deadline: Wednesday, March 17, 2025
Sign-Up Link: www.cityofdenton.com/gac
Volunteer Appreciation Party: 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. at Denton Civic Center (321 E. McKinney Street)

The event is part of a broader nationwide initiative spearheaded by Keep America Beautiful and Keep Texas Beautiful. This project aims to engage millions of volunteers across the United States in efforts to enhance local communities through organized beautification and cleaning activities.

In Denton, volunteers will be assigned various locations citywide, from parks and trails to neighborhoods and waterways. All volunteers, regardless of age and experience level, are welcome and can register by March 17 at www.cityofdenton.com/gac. Participants will be equipped with the necessary cleanup supplies, including trash and recycling bags, gloves, and litter pick-up sticks. Additionally, participants can receive a 2025 Great American Cleanup T-shirt while supplies last.

Once the cleanup efforts conclude, volunteers are invited to a post-event appreciation party at the Denton Civic Center, located at 321 E. McKinney Street, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sponsored by local businesses including Groovy Chicken and Waffles, Kona Ice, El Cucuy, and Cheese and Salsa, the celebration will feature a free lunch, educational activity booths, face painting, a live DJ, and more. Special prizes will be awarded for categories including the largest volunteer group, most bags of litter collected, and the oddest item discovered.

Autumn Natalie, a spokesperson for Keep Denton Beautiful, emphasized the significant impact of the Great American Cleanup: “Our most significant annual commitment to a cleaner Denton is the Great American Cleanup. Thanks to the unwavering support of our volunteers, we’re able to make a tangible difference in the health and beauty of our roadways, parks, and waterways, preserving Denton’s vibrant character.”

Last year, the cleanup in Denton saw over 1,500 volunteers gather 600 bags of trash and recyclables from local streets, waterways, and public spaces. Such efforts are crucial in combating the adverse effects of litter, which can detract from community aesthetics and present health and environmental risks. Misplaced waste entering waterways threatens local water sources and wildlife.

The success of the Great American Cleanup is due to the contributions and sponsorships from community members and organizations such as Keep America Beautiful and Keep Texas Beautiful. Interested businesses can inquire about sponsorship opportunities by contacting Keep Denton Beautiful at (940) 349-8737.

Keep Denton Beautiful is a program under the Denton Parks and Recreation Department, dedicated to engaging neighborhoods, businesses, and residents in maintaining a clean and vibrant community. More information can be found at https://www.cityofdenton.com/598/Keep-Denton-Beautiful.
