May is nearly here and whew! You don’t want to miss out on our celebrations. We’ve got the Honey Run 5K/10K walk, classes, and a storytime lined up!
The City of Denton’s 6th Annual 🍯 Honey Run 5K/10K is virtual this year. You can visit Clear Creek Natural Heritage Center anytime through in May for a walk or run. Honey Run is a family and pet-friendly event that promotes wellness, outdoor recreation, and bee education. 🐝
The event is free, but if you register, you can get a FREE shirt. Shirt pick-up is May 3-7 at the Civic Center from 1–5 p.m. Sizes are not guaranteed. Every year the Honey Run shirts are un-bee-lievably popular! The shirts are first-come, first-serve, so plan accordingly.
We would love to see photos of you, your family, fur babies, and friends participating in the Honey Run! Please share them on the Honey Run Facebook event page during May for a chance to win some awesome prizes. Trust us; the prizes are pretty sweet.
May will be buzzing with excitement! In addition to the Honey Run, there are community weekly educational classes planned to further your bee knowledge throughout May. In honor of International Compost Week, there is a compost workshop on May 5 at 5:30 p.m. Fran Witte, a Texas Master Naturalist will teach this workshop. It is open to novice and expert composters and will cover various techniques. Click here to register.
Pollinators are so crucial to our ecosystem and food supply. Join us for Pollinator Gardening on May 12 from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Carol Rowley, Master Gardener, will guide us through which flowers attract and help our pollinators.
On May 15 come out to Clear Creek Natural Heritage Center for some Bee Kind Yoga. This is a free yoga session, outside in the sunshine. Registration is required to ensure proper social distancing. Click here to register.
World Bee Day is May 20 and we are celebrating by hosting Bee Keeping 101 with Michelle Boerst, Denton County Beekeepers Association. Click here to register.
During May 24 -28 we even have a special event just for little ones! Staff will give out Kids Bee Backyard Bee Hotel at Emily Fowler library with instructions and a virtual storytime. Please register early as supplies are limited. The storytime will also be on Facebook for anyone who would rather watch at home.
All classes and workshops are virtual and free. FREE!
We hope to see you out on a trail at Clear Creek or attending a virtual workshop with us during the month of May. We have something for everyone!
