The University of North Texas (UNT) campus welcomed students back for the Fall 2025 semester with bustling energy as new and returning students filled classrooms, sidewalks, and common areas. This marks the first official day of classes for the Class of 2029 following the completion of First Flight Week, where freshmen familiarized themselves with the campus and prepared for the academic year.
Jermaine Tibbs Jr., a freshman studying computer science and engineering, expressed enthusiasm for the upcoming academic challenges. He noted, “I’m excited for all my classes. I think they’ll be really interesting. It was nice to meet President Keller before it all begins. It shows he cares.”
The start of this semester also marks a milestone for President Harrison Keller, Ph.D., who began his role as UNT’s president on August 1, 2024. During his first year, Keller has been focused on three major initiatives: strategic budgeting, research, and student success. Keller is set to announce UNT’s new five-year strategic plan during his State of the University address on November 5.
Rebecca Robertson, a biology major, commented on her participation in the Primary Care Pathway Program, which offers an expedited journey through medical school via Midland College, UNT, and UNT Health – Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine. She said, “We’re here as part of the Primary Care Pathway Program for our core credits.”
In an effort to help students integrate into university life, Week of Welcome events are scheduled across UNT’s campuses in Denton, Discovery Park, and Frisco. These activities aim to connect students with university resources and help them plan for the upcoming semester.
President Keller shared his excitement as students returned to UNT, stating, “I love the energy on our UNT campus the first day of the Fall 2025 semester. It’s going to be a great year for the Mean Green.”
