The University of North Texas (UNT) has officially launched its National Security and Economic Strategy Initiative (NSESI), a concerted effort to address the intertwined challenges of national security, economic competitiveness, and global supply chain resilience.
Announced at an inaugural summit this May, the initiative brought together a diverse group of national and international thought leaders focused on public-private collaboration, innovation in advanced technologies, and developing robust infrastructure and economic policies.
UNT President Harrison Keller highlighted the initiative’s aim to empower young leaders and executives with the tools needed for maximizing contributions, while also supporting industry, government, and military institutions with essential data, analysis, and insights for better policy implementation.
Guidance for the initiative is provided by a Presidential Advisory Council chaired by former Secretary of the Navy Gordon England. The council includes notable figures like Vice Chairman of Hillwood Darcy Anderson and former Undersecretary of Education Sara Martinez Tucker. England remarked on the necessity of greater public-private collaboration and rapid innovation to tackle current challenges.
The summit, featuring several discussions, laid the groundwork for the initiative’s mission, exploring issues such as advanced technology deployment, infrastructure resilience, and supply chain strategy. Stephen Rodriguez, managing partner for One Defense, commented on UNT’s contribution to national security discourse, providing real solutions beyond traditional approaches.
The event also acknowledged Major General Clint Crosier, U.S. Space Force Ret., with the Raduege Award for his contributions to accelerating technological innovation in national defense. Presented by Lt. General Harry Raduege, this recognition underscores Crosier’s achievements in leveraging private sector capabilities for defense purposes.
The launch of the NSESI underscores UNT’s commitment to innovation and strategic leadership, aiming to enhance national readiness and economic resilience through a hub dedicated to research, education, and policy insight. Those interested can learn more about the initiative through UNT’s official channels.
